Charlevoix’s rich maritime historyDiscover Charlevoix’s maritime tradition through the Saint-Joseph-de-la-Rive shipyard, established in 1946 by a group of some twenty Associates. This new enterprise, Le Chantier Maritime de Charlevoix Ltée was essentially dedicated to the building, repair and winter drydocking of schooners until it closed in 1972. For over 25 years now, the Charlevoix Maritime Museum’s mission has been to share with the site’s visitors the history and building techniques unique to these magnificent ships. Once there, enjoy a magical moment on the shores of the mighty St Lawrence, where centuries of history unfolded: visit schooners and other ships reclaimed from Time, enjoy the beach and picnic area, plus an indoor museum featuring permanent and temporary exhibits, guided tours and much more. |
